THIS WEEK: The University of Iowa rowing team will travel to Bloomington, IN, Saturday to compete in the Big Ten Championships. Iowa will compete agaisnt Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Ohio State, Wisconsin and host team Indiana. LAST TIME OUT: Iowa finished its day against No. 2 Michigan and No. 6 Michigan State without recording a victory. The V8+ boat was involved in two very tightly contested races against very good competition. They were defeated by No. 2 Michigan by only 2.2 seconds.

VARSITY EIGHT RANKED: For the second time this spring, the Iowa Varsity Eight boat is ranked. In the latest Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association/USRowing poll, Iowa is ranked 20th. The last time they appeared in the poll was March 30, when they were ranked 15th.

HEAD COACH: Mandi Kowal is in her 11th year as head coach of the Hawkeyes and has led Iowa to the NCAA Championships three of the past seven years. Kowal was a two-time rowing World Champion in the Women’s Lightweight Four without coxswain in 1986 and 1987. She was named Female Athlete of the Year in 1987 by the U.S. Rowing Association and was inducted into the United States Rowing Hall of Fame in 1997.
