HEAD COACH: Mandi Kowal is in her 11th year as head coach of the Hawkeyes and has led Iowa to the NCAA Championships three of the past seven years. Kowal was a two-time rowing World Champion in the Women’s Lightweight Four without coxswain in 1986 and 1987. She was named Female Athlete of the Year in 1987 by the U.S. Rowing Association and was inducted into the United States Rowing Hall of Fame in 1997.
QUOTING COACH KOWAL: “This is a great opportunity to go against some great competition, as this is probably the toughest field outside of the NCAA Championships. We’ve made a few switches lately, and the team has done a good job of adjusting. It is always hard to prepare for a race like this, especially during finals week, but the team has done a really good job.”
