The University of Iowa’s football linebacking unit has been rated the best in the nation by the college football web site nationalChamps.net. The rankings came out today.
The web site says: “Something no other defense across the country possesses at linebacker is two all-Americans. Iowa’s Chad Greenway and Abdul Hodge are the heart and soul of Iowa’s defense and a good reason Coach Kirk Ferentz has his program ranked highly in so many pre-season polls.”
Both Greenway and Hodge were first-team all-Big Ten performers a year ago as juniors. Greenway has already been named to Playboy’s 2005 pre-season all-America team.
Edmond Miles and Mike Follett are also linebackers adding strength to Iowa’s defense.
The other schools with linebacking groups rated in the nation’s top five are Ohio State, Auburn, Florida State and Tennessee.
