New I-Club Levels, Kinnick Seating Plan Annnounced

July 15, 2005

The members of the National I-Club, the official booster club of the intercollegiate athletics program at the University of Iowa, members of the National Varsity Club and other letterwinners at the UI, and fans of the Iowa Hawkeyes who have purchased season tickets for the 2005 season will receive information in the mail beginning tomorrow that details changes in the National I-Club that affect annual giving deadlines, recognition levels in the National I-Club, and season ticket seat assignments in historic Kinnick Stadium.

Staff of the UI Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and the National I-Club have been working on the priority point system for almost two years. From the outset one of the many goals of the group involved was to arrive at a system that recognized the loyalty of fans of the Hawkeyes by placing a significant priority on years of purchase of season tickets while also appropriately recognizing philanthropic support of the intercollegiate athletics program at the UI.

“As the Iowa Hawkeyes strive to meet the challenges in the years ahead and remain competitive both within the Big Ten and nationally, we are instituting some important changes to the I-Club. These changes – which become effective with the 2006 athletic giving year (September 1, 2005 – June 30, 2006) – include the first realignment of I-Club giving levels since 1995,” wrote Mark Jennings, the UI’s associate director of athletics for donor and patron services, and Andy Piro, the senior director of development, intercollegiate athletics, at the UI Foundation, in the letter that accompanied a brochure that described the changes.

“In addition, as part of the exciting renovation of Kinnick Stadium – which includes new scoreboards, sound system, and improved restrooms and concessions stands, among many other enhancements – seats are being widened throughout the facility, requiring a stadium-wide seating reallocation,” the letter continued.

“In keeping with the spirit of Hawkeye loyalty and in recognition of the generosity of those who are helping the Hawkeyes each year, we have developed a priority points system that is fair, orderly, and includes Hawkeye fans in the process of selected their football season ticket locations. The seating reallocation process will begin in January 2006 and will be in effect for the 2006 football season.”

As previously noted, the changes to the recognition levels of the National I-Club are the first in a decade. When implemented, fans of the Hawkeyes will have an opportunity to support the Hawkeyes for as little as $50 per year (I-Club level) – an amount that is the lowest entry level of support for intercollegiate athletics programs in the Big Ten Conference. Fans who elect to provide support at the highest level of the National I-Club – Kinnick Society membership at $7,500 annually – do so knowing that membership in the Kinnick Society is the most inexpensive highest level of participation in an intercollegiate athletics booster organization in the Big Ten.
