Here’s a little something to get fans of the Iowa Hawkeyes even more excite than they already are about the 2005 college football season.

The UI’s award-winning video production unit has produced a series of video vigenettes on a handful of student-athletes who are likely to figure prominently in the success of the nationally ranked Iowa football team. The list ranges from all-Big Ten quarterback Drew Tate to defensive standouts Chad Greenway and Abdul Hodge.

The number of student-athletes with video vignettes will grow as the season progresses and more Hawkeyes make their mark on the playing field.

“It’s a nice opportunity to get our fans a little more excited. It’s also a great opportunity to showcase the quality of the work of our video productions unit and the video and audio capabilities of our world wide web site,” said Rick Klatt, associate athletics director for external affairs.

Fans can watch the vignettes by clicking on the link that appears at the top of the student-athlete’s online biography. In some cases, the UI has also added links to stories written about a student-athletes by local, regional and national media.

Speaking of hawkeyesports.com and the video and audio that has been available in the multi-media area of the site, Klatt said fans should be looking for some exciting news about that piece of Iowa’s world wide web site.

“We’re finalizing plans for version three of our multi-media area. Among the things that we’ll be announcing in early August is live video of the post-game press conferences involving Kirk (Ferentz), Steve (Alford) and Lisa (Bluder),” said Klatt, who added that the multi-media area of hawkeyesports.com will also be “re-branded.”

“We’ve been on the cutting edge in terms of providing timely, exclusive and comprehensive audio and video content for the enjoyment of all of our fans but particularly those fans who don’t live in the state of Iowa and rely on the official world wide web site of the Iowa Hawkeyes to be their source for all that is black-and-gold and, importantly, official,” said Klatt.

Klatt said the UI Department of Intercollegiate Athletics is finalizing plans to offer fans of the Hawkeyes an opportunity sample at no cost the UI’s online multi-media offerings by watching Kirk Ferentz’s presentation at the UI’s “2005 Football Media Day” on Aug. 8. Details of that offer will be posted on hawkeyesports.com during the first week of August.
