Brunner Hits Boards Again as USA Advances in World University Games

Iowa forward Greg Brunner led his team in rebounding for the second straight game as the USA defeated the Czech Republic at the World University Games.

Brunner, who had 16 rebounds in a win over China, added seven rebounds against the Czech Republic as the USA team improved to 5-0. The USA will be back in action Thursday, facing Australia in the quarter-finals.

A senior from Charles City, Brunner helped the USA team to a 41-36 rebounding advantage. In five games Brunner has totaled 16 points, 31 rebounds and three steals.

Five USA players scored in double figures in the win over the Czech Republic, with Shelden Williams of Duke leading the way with 16 points and Minnesota’s Vincent Grier adding 14 points.

The World University Games semi-finals are Friday and the championship game is Sunday.
