Starting for the first time in their career were LG Marshal Yanda and TE Scott Chandler on offense, and DE Brian Mattison, DE Kenny Iwebema, DT Alex Willcox, DT Matt Kroul and CB Adam Shada on defense.
Iowa quarterbacks combined for 19-20 passes for 200 yards and two touchdowns. Drew Tate completed 9-10 passes for 99 yards and two touchdowns, Jason Manson completed 9-9 passes for 92 yards and Cy Phillips completed 1-1 passes for nine yards.
Senior RB Marcus Schnoor scored his fourth career touchdown on Iowa’s opening drive. It was Schnoor’s first TD since his sophomore season in 2003, as he played in just one game a year ago.

Sophomore RB Albert Young scored the third touchdown of his career on Iowa’s second drive. Young had TD runs last year vs. Kent State and Iowa State before being injured and missing the final 10 games of the season.
Senior CB Jovon Johnson scored his first career touchdown on a 90-yard punt return in the first quarter. The return came on a quick kick by BSU QB Joey Lynch from shotgun formation on fourth down. The return is the fourth longest punt return in school history and the third longest ever in Kinnick Stadium.
Iowa had five true freshmen play in today’s game: TE Tony Moeki, RB Shonn Greene, DL Alex Kanellis, DL Ryan Bain and OL Dace Richardson.
QB Drew Tate played just over one quarter, completing 9-10 passes for 99 yards and two touchdowns. He tossed touchdowns to WR Clinton Solomon (7 yards) and WR Herb Grigsby (33 yards).
Iowa sophomore Damian Sims, who was a running back last season, saw significant action at defensive back today. He collected three solo tackles.
Greene rushed 18 times for a game-high 116 yards and one touchdown (6 yards). The freshman becomes Iowa’s first running back to rush for over 100 yards in a single game since Jermelle Lewis collected 102 yards vs. Iowa State in the second game of last season (9/11/04).
Iowa totaled 302 yards to Ball State’s 22 in the first half. Additionally, Iowa tallied 16 first downs to Ball State’s one in the first stanza. The Hawkeyes were a perfect 5-for-5 in the red zone in the first half and 6-for-6 in the game.
The Hawkeyes never trailed today, marking the seventh straight home game that Iowa did not trail. The last time the Hawkeyes trailed in a home game was when the Hawkeyes trailed 6-3 in their 2003 regular season finale vs. Minnesota (Nov. 15, 2003).
