GymHawks Help With Hurricane Relief Effort

Sept. 21, 2005

IOWA CITY, IA – The Iowa women’s gymnastics team has added their help to the Hurricane Katrina relief effort last weekend. The team collected donations near Kinnick Stadium before the start of the Iowa-UNI football game.

“We feel very strongly about making an effort to help. I lived in Louisiana for ten years and we have an athlete on our team from New Orleans,” stated Iowa Coach Larissa Libby.

In addition, Libby also complemented the team and the supportive Hawkeye fans.

“I know people have been giving to this cause for awhile but it was rare that someone would walk by and not find a way to help. Fans were donating tickets. Whatever money they got from the tickets they would give to our cause.”
