Greenway Named Butkus Semifinalist

Oct. 20, 2005

University of Iowa linebacker Chad Greenway has been named a semi-finalist for the prestigious Butkus Award. The award goes annually to the nation’s best collegiate linebacker.

Greenway is a 6-4, 244-pound senior and native of Mt. Vernon, S.D. He is a pre-season all-American and a 2004 first team all-Big Ten choice. He has posted double-digit tackles in 21 games during his Hawkeye career. He made a career high 20 tackles vs. Northern Iowa earlier this year. His efforts earned him Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week for the third time in his career.

Greenway ranks eighth on Iowa’s all-time tackle list with 353 stops. He’s expected to end his Hawkeye career in the top five in career tackles. The three-year letterman was named to Playboy’s 2005 pre-season all-America team.

Senior Abdul Hodge was also on the Butkus watch list.

The ten semi-finalists will be narrowed down to three on Nov. 10th. The winner will be announced Dec. 10th in Orlando, FL.
