Hawkeyes Dominate Truman State

KIRKSVILLE, MO – The University of Iowa men and women’s swimming teams traveled to Truman State on Friday night, where they challenged the Truman State Bulldogs; both teams came away with victories. The men won 176.5-82.5, while the women won 142.5-119.5. The men’s record now stands at 2-3 (0-2 Big Ten), while the women are 3-3 (0-2 Big Ten).

The men dominated the Bulldogs, winning 13 of 14 events and finishing in a tie in the 50 yard freestyle. Freshman Nick Divan took first in the 1,000 free (9:43.02), 200 free (1:43.68) and the 500 yard free (4:35.62). Sophomore Andrej Lenert finished first in the 100 yard backstroke, with a 54.00 and the 200 backstroke with a 1:56.72. Fellow sophomore Dragos Agache also had two first place finishes. He won the 100 yard breaststroke in 57.36 and the 200 yard breaststroke in 2:07.00. Senior Trevor Haley won the 200 yard butterfly (1:55.75) and the 200 yard individual medley (1:57.10); he also placed second in the 1,000 yard freestyle (10:03.79) and a tie in the 100 yard butterfly (53.41).

The women took first place in 10 of 14 events. Senior Kelly Werner had three first place finishes, the 100 yard backstroke (57.27), 200 yard backstroke (2:03.94) and the 100 yard butterfly (58.01). Fellow senior Erica Noah also finished first in the 200 yard freestyle (1:55.40) and the 500 yard freestyle (5:09.07). Junior Emmy Haeger placed first in the 100 and 200 yard breaststroke, with times of 1:06.09 and 2:22.81 respectively.

The Hawkeyes return to action December 2-4, when they travel to the Ohio State Invitational at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion in Columbus, Ohio.
