Iowa: Aiming to Take the Life Out of the Party

Nov. 11, 2005

In the not too distant past, the Iowa football team trekked to Madison, Wis., for a game against a nationally ranked Wisconsin Badger football team. That contest turned into a party…”The Ron Dayne for Heisman” party.

At 2:30 p.m. today, the Hawkeyes and nationally ranked Badgers square off again and, this time, the honored guest is UW Head Coach Barry Alvarez. The Badgers’ long-time head coach will stalk the sidelines of Camp Randall Stadium for the final time today in a game that pits him against a friend – UI coach Kirk Ferentz – and one of his former employers – the University of Iowa.

Obviously, the Hawkeyes aim to spoil the fun and become bowl eligible for the fourth straight season by capturing win No. 6 in 2005 and retaining possession of “The Heartland Trophy,” the bronze bull awarded to the winner of the annual clash between two football programs that dominate the game the Heartland.

ESPN will televise the event live. Gary Dolphin, Ed Podolak and Rob Brooks will also call the game live for the Hawkeye Radio Network. Dolphin offers his unique view of the contest in today’s installment of “The View from the Press Box” inside Hawkeye All-Access.
