THIS WEEK — The University of Iowa women’s tennis team will host their first dual matches of the season this weekend. The Hawkeyes will host Marquette Friday, with competition beginning at 6 p.m. The Hawkeyes will also host Baylor at 10 a.m. on Sunday. Competition will be held at the Clark Racquet Center at Coe College in Cedar Rapids.
THE HAWKEYES— Meg Racette is ranked 21st in preseason rankings, the highest an Iowa player has ever been ranked, and Mili Veselinovic is ranked 93rd in preseason rankings. Other expected to compete for the Hawkeyes are Krissy Dowlin, Merel Beelen, Jacqueline Lee, Hillary Mintz, and Kayla Berry.
THE COMPETITION — The 44th ranked Hawkeyes will face ninth ranked Baylor and unranked Marquette. Baylor’s team has four nationally ranked players, including #9 Zuzana Cerna, #17 Zuzana Zemenova, #18 Carolin Walter, and #80 Daniela Covello.
LAST MEET — The Hawkeyes competed at the Wildcat Invitational in Evanston IL, last weekend. Hillary Mintz and Merel Beelen both posted two wins in three matches, while Meg Racette posted a 1-1 tournament mark. In doubles competition Iowa was successful with a 3-0 tournament record.
HEAD COACH Daryl Greenan–Coach Greenan is in his second season as head coach for the Hawkeyes. He led the Hawkeyes to a 14-10 overall record in 2005, going 8-4 in Big Ten competition for a fourth place finish in the conference. Toni Neykova is the assistant coach and begins her fourth season with the Hawkeyes.
