Former Hawkeye Named UMAC Coach of the Year

Feb. 27, 2006

ST. PAUL, MN – Randi Peterson was named head women’s basketball coach at the University of Minnesota-Morris this past summer.

In her first stint as a head coach, Peterson has been recognized as the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) women’s basketball coach of the year.

Peterson took over a team that that had won just 10 games last year.

With only two seniors on the roster, several new additions and returning players hungry to put a winning team on the floor, she guided the Cougar women’s basketball team to its first ever appearance in the UMAC post-season tournament and the first winning season since 1997-98.

Peterson lettered at the University of Iowa from 1997-2001 and earned all-Big Ten first team accolades her senior season. She was also a three-time academic all-Big Ten honoree with the Hawkeyes.

Minnesota-Morris, picked sixth in the UMAC pre-season coaches poll, finished the season 16-10 and 10-4 in the UMAC and were battling for the regular season conference title right down to the final game.
