THIS WEEK — The University of Iowa women’s tennis team will travel to Lawrence, and Manhattan, KS for this week’s competition. The Hawkeyes will face Kansas in Lawrence, Saturday at 11 a.m., and Kansas State in Manhattan, Sunday at 12 p.m.
THE HAWKEYES — The Hawkeyes are currently ranked 40th, with a 7-2 record. Individually, Meg Racette is ranked No. 39 in singles. Others expected to compete for the Hawkeyes are Mili Veselinovic, Krissy Dowlin, Merel Beelen, Jacqueline Lee, Hillary Mintz, and Kayla Berry.
THE COMPETITION — Kansas has a 5-3 record and is ranked 72nd in the nation. Freshman Ksenia Bukina is ranked 81st in singles competition. Kansas State posts a 4-2 record and is currently ranked 67th. Kansas State has no nationally ranked players.
LAST TIME VS. KANSAS — Iowa defeated Kansas at home, 7-0, in 2005.
LAST TIME VS. KANSAS STATE — Iowa defeated Kansas State, 6-1, in 2004 in Iowa City.
LAST MEET — The Hawkeyes competed against Drake last weekend, winning, 7-0.
HEAD COACH Daryl Greenan — Coach Greenan is in his second season as head coach for the Hawkeyes. He led the Hawkeyes to a 14-10 overall record in 2005, going 8-4 in Big Ten competition for a fourth place finish in the conference. Greenan has a 20-12 overall record in two seasons at Iowa. Toni Neykova is the assistant coach and begins her fourth season with the Hawkeyes.
