Hawkeyes Travel To No. 2 Notre Dame, Friday

THIS WEEK — The University of Iowa women’s tennis team will travel to South Bend, IN, for Friday’s meet at Notre Dame. Competition will begin at 3 p.m. Iowa will then travel to Columbus, OH, Sunday to compete at Ohio State. Competition will begin at 10 a.m. (CST).

THE HAWKEYES — The Hawkeyes are currently ranked 38th, with a 9-2 record. Individually, Meg Racette is ranked No. 28 in singles and Mili Veselinovic is ranked 104th. Meg Racette and Jacqueline Lee are currently ranked 40th in doubles rankings. Others expected to compete for the Hawkeyes are, Krissy Dowlin, Merel Beelen, Hillary Mintz, and Kayla Berry.

THE COMPETITION — Notre Dame is ranked second nationally with a 14-0 record. Catrina Thompson is ranked 32nd nationally, and Christian Thompson is ranked 48th. In doubles rankings, Catrina Thompson and Christian Thompson are currently ranked fourth while Brook Buck/Kelcy Tefft are ranked 39th and Lauren Connelly/Kristina Stastny are ranked 46th. Ohio State is ranked 57th nationally with an 8-5 record. There are no nationally ranked players on Ohio State’s team.

LAST TIME VS. NOTRE DAME — Iowa traveled to Notre Dame in 2005, losing, 7-0.

LAST TIME VS. OHIO STATE — Iowa hosted Ohio State in 2005. The Hawkeyes defeated the Buckeyes, 6-1.

LAST MEET — Iowa competed at Kansas, March 11th, and Kansas State, March 12th. Iowa defeated both teams, 4-3. Meg Racette, Milica Veselinovic, and Jacqueline Lee won their singles matches in both competitions.

HEAD COACH Daryl Greenan— Coach Greenan is in his second season as head coach for the Hawkeyes. He led the Hawkeyes to a 14-10 overall record in 2005, going 8-4 in Big Ten competition for a fourth place finish in the conference. Greenan has a 23-12 overall record in two seasons at Iowa. Toni Neykova is the assistant coach and begins her fourth season with the Hawkeyes.
