Hawkeyes Release Spring Schedule

The University of Iowa field hockey team’s spring season is in full swing. The Hawkeyes already have one tournament crown in the bag and have several more competitions scheduled including the annual Black and Gold Competition at Grant Field on April 22.

Iowa competed in the Northwestern University Spring Tournament on March 5. The Hawkeyes went undefeated in the one day tournament and gave up just one goal. On its path to the championship game, Iowa beat the Chicago Club Team 3-0, defeated Northwestern 2-0, downed the NU Alumni Team 3-1 and also blanked Kent State 3-0. In the title game, the Hawkeyes overpowered Northwestern 2-0.

This weekend, Iowa travels to James Madison for a game Saturday in Harrisonburg, VA. On Sunday, the Hawkeyes will compete in the University of Virginia 8 vs. 8 Spring Tournament against Duke, American, Richmond, Virginia and James Madison.

The Hawkeyes are slated to compete in two tournaments at the University of Louisville April 8-9. Iowa will take on Indiana, Ball State, Missouri State, St. Louis and Louisville in a 7 vs. 7 tournament April 8, and will play the same teams the following day in a regular 11 vs. 11 game.

The finale for the Spring 2006 season will be the Black and Gold Competition in Iowa City on April 22. The competition is an intrasquad game with six players on each team. The Hawkeyes will also compete in other contests that include fundamental skills, penalty corners, and penalty strokes.
