IOWA CITY – Former Hawkeye Barb Weinberg has been named to the United States World Cup Qualifying Team, which will compete in the World Cup Qualifying Tournament, April 25- May 6 in Rome, Italy.
The top five teams at the 12-team qualifying tournament will join Argentina, Australia, Germany, India, The Netherlands, South Africa and Spain at the Women’s World Cup, Sept. 27-Oct. 7 in Madrid.
“We are extremely proud of Barb and her accomplishments within the US Field Hockey program,” Iowa Head Coach Tracey Griesbaum said. “She continues to represent the University of Iowa in a first class manner. She works extremely hard to develop her skills and knowledge of the game. We wish her and the team the best of luck in Rome as they compete for a spot in the 2006 World Cup.”
Weinberg was a two-time all-American and three-time first team all-Big Ten selection while at Iowa.
