DUBLIN, OH – The Iowa men’s golf team finished seventh in the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate hosted by The Ohio State University. The Hawkeyes carded a three-round score of 915 (+51), which was only two strokes from sixth-place Illinois (913, +49). Iowa entered the final round in ninth, but fired a 307 Sunday to leap over Ball State and Michigan into seventh. Northwestern (878, +14) was the team champion, overtaking Indiana (882, +18) to win the title.
The tournament was held at the Muirfield Village Golf Club, which is a PGA course that hosts The Memorial Tournament annually and was designed by golf legend Jack Nicklaus.
Jon Feldick and Todd Larson led the Hawkeyes at this difficult course. Feldick tied for 13th, shooting a 225 (+9), while Larson tied for 28th, carding a 229 (+13). Cole Peevler tied for 48th (236, +20), Brian deBuhr tied for 52nd (237, +21), while Andy Tiedt tied for 56th (238, +22).
Kyle Moore of Northwestern and Seth Brandon of Indiana decided medalist honors with a playoff. Each shot 215 for the 54-hole tournament. Moore was declared the winner with a par on No. 2 to win the event.
Iowa returns to action next weekend when it competes in the Fossum Invitational at East Lansing, MI, Saturday and Sunday.
