IOWA CITY– Univeristy of Iowa men’s golfer Andy Tiedt was named a Big Ten Men’s Golf Sportsmanship Honoree on Tuesday. Tiedt, a senior accounting and finance major from Cedar Rapids concluded his Hawkeye career at the Big Ten Championships last Sunday. He led the team with a 34th place finish.
Tiedt seemed to have saved his best for last, because his senior season was the most successful of his Hawkeye career. He played in a team-high 36 rounds this season and finished with a career best season average of 74.91 strokes per round. His best finish this season was at the Big Four Championships on October 24, where he finished in third place and just one stroke behind the leaders.
Tiedt did not just succeed on the course, but also in the classroom. Iowa Head Coach Terry Anderson commented, “Andy is the real deal. He hasn’t just been a great golfer, but he’s also been a great student.” He was named an all-American scholar in 2005 and is eligible to receive his second after this season.
