IOWA CITY – Iowa Basketball Coach Steve Alford announced Tuesday that center Josh Crawford has signed a national letter of intent and has joined the Hawkeye basketball program for the upcoming season.
Crawford (6-11, 205) is a native of Long Beach, CA, where he graduated from Wilson HS in 2006. As a prep senior Crawford averaged 16 points, nine rebounds and six blocked shots per game. He led the Moore League in blocks with 111, and was third in rebounds with 184. Crawford has grown more than eight inches over the last two years.
“Josh is a great addition to our team,” said Alford. “He had a successful summer and will contribute to our inside depth. Josh is long and athletic. He has good hands and runs the floor well. He’s still learning how good he can be and we feel he can develop into a very good player.”
Iowa is coming off one of the most successful seasons in school history. The Hawkeyes posted a 25-9 record while winning the Big Ten Conference post-season tournament. The Hawkeyes have won 46 games over the past two years and have a string of six consecutive winning seasons and post-season appearances.
