THIS WEEK — The women’s golf team travels to South Bend, IN, Saturday and Sunday to compete in the Notre Dame Invitational. The 54-hole tournament will be held at the par-72 Warren Golf Course. Teams will play 36 holes Saturday and 18 Sunday with a 9 a.m. shotgun start each day.
THE COMPETITION — The 14 competing teams include: Cincinnati, Columbia, Eastern Michigan, Georgetown, Illinois, Illinois State, Iowa, IPFW, Notre Dame, Toledo, Western Michigan, Wichita State, Wyoming and Xavier.
LINEUP — Competing for Iowa will be Jill Marcum, Tyrette Metzendorf, Karla Murra, Becky Quinby and Amy Riepma.
LAST COMPETITION — Iowa finished sixth at the 12-team Lady Northern Invitational. Iowa moved up from eighth place after posting a third round score of 302, to finish with a total score of 919 through 54-holes. Senior Amy Riepma (226 +10) jumped into 13th place after tying for 23rd after round two.
NOTRE DAME INVITATIONAL HISTORY — The Hawkeyes last competed in the Notre Dame Invitational in the fall of 2004, when they finished fifth. In 2001, Iowa won the inaugural tournament.
SENIORS — After having no seniors on the 2005-06 golf team, this year’s seniors are making a big impact. Riepma and Karla Murra have each led the Hawkeyes in the past two tournaments. They also have the two lowest stroke averages on the team.
QUOTING HEAD COACH Kelly Crawford — “I am really pleased at how well we played at the Lady Northern Invitational. We made good moves. I expect us to keep moving forward and to do well at Notre Dame.”
