The Hawkeyes won two singles championships and two doubles championships while compiling a 37-9 overall tournament record.
Iowa’s first title came from the doubles team of juniors Bart van Monsjou and J.P. Ritchie. The team took down Lofgren and Roby of Bradley (8-5) and Berry and Breotenbach of Butler (8-1) in route to winning the Flight A championship. In Flight B, freshman Patrick Dwyer paired with sophomore Greg Holm. They were defeated in the semifinals by West and Newmark of Butler (8-4). Freshman Reinoud Haal and senior Scott Elwell defeated Saine and Miller of Western Kentucky (8-2) and Sirotek and Czermiszewocz of Marquette (8-4) to win the Flight C championship.
In singles action, van Monsjou fell just short of the Flight A championship. He was defeated by Butler’s James Low (6-3, 1-6, 6-2) in the finals. Freshman Tommy McGeorge won the Flight A consolation title by defeating Eric Breitenbach of Butler (6-3, 6-3). In the Flight C championship match, Elwell took down Butler’s Scott Newmark (7-5, 6-0) to take the title.
