Hawkeye football fans in the Iowa City area to attend next week’s contest vs. Wisconsin can check out the Iowa men’s basketball team Friday evening, at no charge.

Fans with tickets to the Wisconsin game will be granted free admission to see Coach Steve Alford’s squad take on Buena Vista University in an exhibition game Friday at 7:05 p.m. Tickets to the basketball exhibition are $10.

“We’re excited with the opportunity this provides our fans traveling to the Iowa City area for a football weekend,” said Alford. “We hope local fans as well will take this opportunity to see our young team in action against one of the top basketball programs in the Iowa Conference.”

Fans who wish to attend the basketball game are asked to show their football ticket at any ticket window in Carver-Hawkeye Arena, and they will be presented with a ticket for the exhibition game. The contest vs. Buena Vista is Iowa’s only exhibition game before the Hawkeyes start the regular season on Monday, Nov. 13 vs. The Citadel.

The Hawkeyes posted a 25-9 overall record a year ago and won the 2006 Big Ten Conference Tournament. Buena Vista has won five consecutive Iowa Conference tournament titles under Coach Brian Van Haaften and has advanced to the Division III NCAA Tournament seven times.

The Hawkeyes enter the 2006-07 season with an 18-game winning streak in Carver-Hawkeye Arena after posting a perfect 17-0 record a year ago. The home winning streak ranks third longest in the nation.

Parking lots around Carver-Hawkeye Arena, except Lot 40, located immediately east of the arena, will open at 5 p.m. Friday to accommodate those fans of the UI men’s basketball program who have priority parking privileges as a result of their membership in the National I-Club.

All parking lots around Carver-Hawkeye Arena will be accessible to fans with parking privileges related to football beginning at 6 p.m., Friday.
