University of Iowa cornerback Charles Godfrey is excited on so many different levels these days its hard to count. Christmas is just days away, so like most, he’s excited about the holiday.
And, like most friends and fans of the University of Iowa and the Iowa Hawkeyes, he’s excited about the chance to square off against one of the nation’s top college football programs in the 2006 Alamo Bowl.
And, perhaps most importantly, the junior from Baytown, Texas is excited about the opportunity to play the Texas Longhorns before lots of friends and family.
“I’m excited about having a chance to play at home,” said the subject of today’s “Alamo Bowl Countdown.” “I’ll have a nice little crowd there and that’s really exciting.”
Godfrey is one of a number of native Texans – quarterback Drew Tate, another Baytown product, and tight end Scott Chandler among them – looking forward to playing in their home state against the state’s top college football program and the defending national champions.
“They are a great team, a great team. It’s exciting to play a high-powered offense. Everyone across the country knows that Texas can bring it offensively, so we’re excited,” he said.
