Iowa falls to Michigan, 6-1

ANN ARBOR, MI – The 59th-ranked Hawkeyes fell to No. 35 Michigan today, 6-1. Iowa moves to 7-8 on the season including 3-2 in Big Ten play.

In doubles action, Jacqueline Lee and Mili Veselinovic fell to Jenny Kuehn and Chisako Sugiyama at the first spot, 8-3, while Merel Beelen and Hillary Mintz lost to Kara Delicata and Tania Mahtani, 8-6, at the second position. At the third doubles spot, Kelcie Klockenga and Kayla Berry were defeated by Lindsey Howard and Allie Shafner, 8-4.

In singles action, Beelen was Iowa’s only player to win her match, defeating Shafner, 6-4, 7-6(1). With the victory, Beelen now posts a record of 13-2, and has won 18 of her last 20 matches.

Lee lost to 69th-ranked Kuehn, 6-2, 6-0, and 87th-ranked Sugiyama defeated Veselinovic, 6-4, 6-0. Iowa will face Michigan State, Sunday, April 8th at 11 a.m.
