MADISON, WI – Iowa defeated Wisconsin today, 4-3. Iowa claimed three singles wins in the match. Iowa improves to 9-8 overall including 5-2 in Big Ten play.
In doubles play, Iowa’s duo of Jacqueline Lee and Mili Veselinovic were the first to finish, losing to Caitlin Burke and Liz Carpenter, 8-3. Kayla Berry and Kelcie Klockenga finished second, defeating Kim Roberts and Chelsea Nusslock, 8-4, at the third position. Claiming the doubles point for Iowa was the duo of Merel Beelen and Hillary Mintz, defeating Kaylan Caiati and Nicole Beck, 8-6, at the second position.
In singles action, Mintz finished first, defeating Carpenter, 6-4, 6-1 at the third singles spot, while Beelen finished second for Iowa at the number five singles spot, defeating Roberts, 6-2, 6-4. At the fourth singles spot, Kayla Berry finished next for Iowa, losing to Nusslock, 0-6, 6-3, 6-2, to bring the match total to 3-1. Lee finished fourth for Iowa at the first singles spot, losing to Burke, 6-1, 2-6, 6-1, bringing the total score to 3-2.
Tying the match at three-all, was Morgan Tuttle of Wisconsin, beating Klockenga at the sixth singles spot, 7-5, 1-6, 6-1. Clinching the win for Iowa was Mili Veselnovic, winning a tiebreaking match over Caiati, 4-6, 6-3, 6-1.
The Hawkeyes return to action Sunday at Northwestern at 12 p.m.
