University of Iowa GymHawk Katie Burke will compete at NCAA Championships, Thursday-Saturday. Burke will compete in the all-around. Session one will begin at noon Thursday with session two starting at 6 p.m. Friday’s competition will begin at 6 p.m., and individual event championships will begin Saturday at 6 p.m. All times listed are central.

Last Time At NCAA Championships

Iowa traveled as a team to the 2004 championships, and finished 12th with a 194.775. In the first session, Alexis Maday won the floor competition with a 9.95, while Stephanie Gran tied for fifth on floor with a 9.9. Gran was Iowa’s top all-around competitor, finishing 18th with a 39.125. In the individual event finals, Maday tied for fifth on floor with a 9.875.

Junior Katie Burke

Burke scored career highs on every event this season, and holds Iowa’s top all-around score at 39.25. She also posted Iowa’s top bars (9.875), and beam (9.825) scores. Burke tied for eighth on floor at the Big Ten Championships with a 9.8, and tied for 10th in the all-around with a 38.7. She then went on to place seventh in the all-around at NCAA Regionals with a score of 38.925. Burke earned one Big Ten Gymnast of the Week honor this season.

Head Coach Larissa Libby

Iowa Head Coach Larissa Libby is in her third season as head coach of the Hawkeyes. In her first two years, Libby recorded a 12-31 overall record. Before becoming head coach, Libby was Iowa’s associate head coach for one year and an assistant coach for three seasons. While associate head coach, Libby led the GymHawks to a school record 49.425 beam performance in 2004. In addition, in 2004 the GymHawks recorded a 49.0 or higher seven times on beam under Libby’s guidance.
