Iowa Fall To Northwestern In Semifinals

MINNEAPOLIS, MN – Fourth-seed Iowa fell to first-seed Northwestern in semifinal play of the Big Ten Championships, today, 4-1.

In doubles play, Northwestern claimed the point. Iowa’s Kayla Berry and Kelcie Klockenga were defeated by Alexis Conill and Samantha Murray, 8-2, while Jacqueline Lee and Mili Veselinovic fell to 10th-ranked Alexis Prousis and Georgia Rose, 8-4. The match between Iowa’s Merel Beelen and Hillary Mintz, and Northwestern’s Lauren Lui and Keri Robison was unfinished.

In singles action, Mintz was the only Iowa player to claim a win today, defeating Alexis Prousis, 0-6, 6-1, 6-4. Lee fell to 13th-ranked Georgia Rose, 7-6 (3), 6-1, while Berry was defeated by Nazlie Ghazal, 6-1, 6-2.

Suzie Matzenauer clinched the win for Northwestern with her victory over Klockenga, 6-0, 6-1. The number two singles match between Veselinovic and Murray was unfinished, as was the match between Beelen and Lui at the fourth position.
