Hawkeyes Add One More To 2007-08 Freshman Class

IOWA CITY –

The Iowa women’s tennis team has signed Alexis Dorr to a national letter of intent. Dorr, a native of Doylestown, PA, is considered one of the top recruits in the nation.

Dorr rounds out a strong recruiting class for Iowa and will join Lynne Poggensee-Wei and Jessica Young as Iowa’s three incoming freshmen next fall. The three recruits rank in the top 65 in the country according to tennisrecruiting.net and should be top 10 nationally as a class according to tennisrecruiting.net.

Dorr has been ranked as high as 25th in national 18s rankings, fifth in Florida’s 18s, and No. 144 in ITF 18s rankings. Dorr was undefeated in the Fed Cup and earned a player of the year award after winning the national championship at girl’s 18s.

“Alexis is a tremendous athlete and I expect she will make an immediate impact on our team,” said Iowa Coach Daryl Greenan. “I was very impressed with Alexis during the recruiting process. She is an excellent student/athlete and has the right work ethic and character to fit in at Iowa. Alexis, Lynne and Jessica make up one of the best recruiting classes in the country and one of the best ever at Iowa.”

Poggensee-Wei, a native of Lake Villa, IL, is currently ranked 40th nationally by tennisrecruiting.net. She is also ranked second in the Great Lakes Region and first in the state of Illinois.

Young is from Bloomfield, MI, and currently attends Birmingham Seaholm High School. She is ranked among the top 110 nationally, 11th in the Great Lakes Region, and third in the state of Michigan.
