The University of Iowa men’s golf team started strong at the Fighting Irish Gridiron Golf Classic. The Hawkeyes shot an 18-hole score of 299 (+19). Iowa is in seventh place out of 12 teams after day one. Michigan State is the front-runner and leads the Hawkeyes by 14 strokes.
Senior Todd Larson led the Hawkeyes, firing a one-under round of 69, one shot from first place. He is currently tied for third place. Junior Cole Peevler also started strong, shooting a round of 72 (+2) to tie for 12th place. In the first tournament of his career, freshman Vince India chipped in a score of 74 (+4) to tie for 21st. Adam Miller and Dan Holterhaus each shot rounds of 84 (+14) to tie for 67th. Michigan State’s Graham Baillargeon and Notre Dame’s Doug Fortner lead the field after shooting rounds of 68 (-2).
Play will resume Monday with tee times starting at 8:30 am. Iowa’s first tee time is schedule for 9:20 am. The tournament concludes with 18 holes Tuesday.
