WEST LAFAYETTE, IN – The University of Iowa men’s tennis team claimed 13 singles wins and three doubles wins in Saturday’s competition at the Purdue Fall Invitational. Teams competing along with the Hawkeyes include Butler, Marquette and Purdue.
Each Hawkeye competing in singles matches claimed at least one victory Saturday, with four winning both of their matches. Senior Bart von Monsjou advanced to the finals of flight `A’ by defeating P.J. Rose of Purdue 6-1, 6-2 and Dusan Medan of Marquette 6-2, 6-1. In addition to von Monsjou, J.P.Ritchie, Tommy McGeorge and Gregory Holm advanced to the finals with singles wins in each of their first two matches. Ritchie downed Griff Nienberg of Purdue and Mark Rutherford of Marquette to reach the finals in flight `B’. McGeorge defeated Peter Van Lieshout of Marquette and Eren Turkmenler of Purdue to reach the finals in flight `C’ and Holm overwhelmed Greg Sirotek of Marquette and Jose Fuenmayor of Purdue to reach the finals in flight `D’. Additionally, Christian Bierich will compete for third place in flight `A’ on Sunday.
The Hawkeyes will conclude competition at the Purdue Invite Sunday.
