Hawkeyes Cancel Head of the Iowa

Oct. 24, 2007

IOWA CITY- University of Iowa officials decided to cancel the annual Head of the Iowa Regatta due to high river levels and current. This is the first time the Head of the Iowa has been cancelled because of river conditions.

“Canceling the Head of the Iowa Regatta was a very difficult decision because we realize the decision affects 21 programs and over 871 participants,” said Hawkeye Head Coach Mandi Kowal. “I know our team and entire community enjoy being apart of this regatta. This year we had an exciting new format and a new timing company we were eager to try; this will have to wait until next year. It was a very easy decision when we thought about the safety of all the competitors and our workers. So as we are disappointed we accept what Mother Nature sends our way and move toward looking for another racing opportunity before our fall comes to a close.”
