Nov. 5, 2007

IOWA CITY – Junior forward Caroline Blaum was named National Player of the Week by www.WomensFieldHockey.com. This is the first weekly honor of her career.

Blaum earned the award after leading the Hawkeyes to a Big Ten Tournament championship. She recorded two goals in the semifinal win over No. 7 Michigan State and two assists in the championship game against No. 5 Michigan.

“We are very pleased with Caroline’s performance over the weekend at the Big Ten Tournament,” Head Coach Tracey Griesbaum said. “She is a player who possesses phenomenal offensive skills and has the ability to break down defenses. As a captain and leader within the team, we are thrilled with her contributions this season.”

The Hawkeyes return to action on Saturday in the NCAA tournament. Their opponent will be announced Tuesday during the NCAA Selection Show on CSTV at 7 p.m. (CT).
