Iowa Coach Lisa Bluder:
“Obviously, I’m very disappointed in our first 20 minutes of play. We made it respectable in the last 20, but that’s not good enough. We are playing against a top 25 team in the country and for some reason in the fist half we did not come out and play with the composure or the defensive intensity that we’ve seen out of our basketball team lately. Against Minnesota, we played strong on every possession and it was not there today and that’s disappointing for us.”
“We gave up too many second-chance points, but more than that it was also open looks. They had wide-open looks and we’re closing out with our hands down. I thought we had a lack of communication out on the floor and it was really unfortunate. But, obviously, it was a tale of two halves. The first half they have 19 field goals, second half they had eight. Now, was is that we played better defense, did Ohio State think that they had it won and start coasting through it? Probably a combination of both. I hope our defense was better the second half, I felt like it was but at the same time I don’t understand why we can’t play that way both halves. “
Junior Kristi Smith
“It kind of got us out of sync. We were running around like chickens with our heads cut off. It gave us problems, but once we figured it out we could beat it with passing and not trying to dribble through it. We made it work well and helped out the offense.”
