IOWA CITY – Senior Jacob Becker and junior Geoff Reins have been named to the 2008 Preseason all-Big Ten men’s gymnastics team. The announcement came today from the Big Ten office.
Becker, a native of Northhampton, PA, was an all-American in 2007 on the pommel horse after he finished tied for third at the NCAA championships. Becker also finished second on the pommel horse at the Big Ten Championships and holds the school record on parallel bars with a score of 9.4. He was an academic all-Big Ten selection and a second team all-America Scholar-Athlete. Becker was also named the team’s N.R. Holzaepfel MVP last season.
Reins is from Buffalo Grove, IL, and is a two-time all-American. In 2006, Reins earned all-America honors on floor exercise after placing seventh at the NCAA Championships. Reins placed fourth in the vault at the 2007 NCAA Championships, earning all-America honors. He holds the school record on vault at 9.55 and won the team award for Best Competitor at the 2007 NCAA Championships.
The No. 9 Hawkeyes open competition Saturday at 7 p.m., in Chicago, at the Windy City Invitational.
