This Week
The 21st-ranked Iowa Women’s Gymnastics team will wrap-up regular season competition at Southern Utah Friday. Competition will take place at Centrum Arena at 8 p.m. (CST).
Last Week
Iowa hosted Iowa State March 7 in the “Pink Meet” honoring Breast Cancer Awareness. The Hawkeyes defeated the Cyclones, 195.35-192.65 and scored their highest bars score of the season with a 49.0. Jenifer Simbhudas won the all-around, scoring 39.25, and took the title on vault (9.8) and floor (9.9). Katie Burke and Rebecca Simbhudas tied for first on bars with a 9.85 while R. Simbhudas finished first on beam with a 9.825.
The Hawkeyes
Iowa is ranked 21st nationally and fourth in the Big Ten with a 9-4-1 record, while Simbhudas is fifth in the league’s all-around rankings with an average 39.082 and season-high 39.45.
The Competition
Southern Utah is ranked 25th-nationally with an 8-4 record and a season-high 196.0. Junior Kellie Dangerfield is ranked 30th-nationally on beam.
Head Coach Larissa Libby
In four years as Iowa Head Coach, Larissa Libby has recorded a 29-46-1 record. Before becoming head coach, Libby was Iowa’s associate head coach for one year and an assistant coach the previous three seasons. While associate head coach, Libby helped lead the GymHawks to a school record 49.425 beam performance in 2004. In addition to the record breaking performance, the 2004 GymHawks recorded a 49.0 or higher seven times on beam under Libby’s guidance.
Next Competition
The Hawkeyes will travel to the Big Ten Championships March 29th at Ann Arbor, MI.
