GAINESVILLE, FL – The University of Iowa women’s golf team finished in a three-way tie for ninth-place at the 15-team Gainesville Shootout held on the par-70 Mary Bostick Golf Course this weekend. Iowa, West Florida and Southern Mississippi finished ninth with a 54-hole score of 950. Illinois (916) captured the tournament title by two strokes over second-place Texas State (918).
Tyrette Metzendorf tied for 27th (234, +24). Junior Becky Quinby finished only two strokes behind Metzendorf, placing 31st (236, +26). Senior Jill Marcum tied for 42nd after shooting three consecutive rounds of 80 (240, +30). Senior Melanie Boyles tied for 44th, only one shot behind Marcum (241, +31). Freshman Lauren Forbes tied for 62nd (254, +44). Hawkeyes competing as individuals were sophomore Alison Cavanaugh and freshman Brianna Coopman, who are tied for 58th (249, +39) and 62nd (250, +40), respectively.
The Hawkeyes return to action next week when they compete in the Shamrock Intercollegiate, March 21-23 in Rock Hill, SC.
