Hawkeyes Prepare For Indiana Invitational

THIS WEEK
The University of Iowa women’s golf team travels to Carmel, IN, for the Indiana Invitational, hosted by Indiana University. The 54-hole tournament will be played next Monday and Tuesday.

THE COMPETITION
Thirteen other teams are scheduled to participate next week including Ball State, Illinois, Illinois State, Indiana, Lipscomb, Michigan, Minnesota, Northwestern, Ohio State, Oregon, Penn State, Texas and UNLV.

The invitational will be played at Crooked Stick Golf Club. The yardage is 6,620 and par for the course is 72.

LINEUP
Coach Kelly Crawford’s lineup includes senior Jill Marcum, juniors Tyrette Metzendorf and Becky Quinby, as well as freshmen Laura Cilek and Brianna Coopman.

LAST COMPETITION
The Hawkeyes last competed at the Shamrock Intercollegiate March 21-23 and finished fifth. Murray State won the invitational with a score of 935.

Senior Jill Marcum led the Hawkeyes with a strong performance, finishing tied for 13th with freshman teammate Brianna Coopman, who competed as an individual (237). Freshman Laura Cilek also competed as an individual for the Hawkeyes, and the Iowa City native finished tied for 28th. Cilek’s three-round total of 246 was a career-high.

“We’re still waiting to break through. We are playing tough in practice – off the tees, on the greens. Now we just have to put it together in a tournament that counts. This is going to be a tough challenge for our team, playing against a lot of good teams, especially a lot of Big Ten teams when the Big Ten Championships are right around the corner.”
