PALO ALTO, CA –
Three student athletes competed at the Stanford Invite, Friday. Seniors Diane Nukuri and Meghan Armstrong each automatically qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 10,000 meters, while Nukuri managed to break the 17 year school record.
“Our goal coming here was to qualify Diane and Meghan for nationals, so mission accomplished,” Head Coach Layne Anderson said.
Nukuri (33:17.01) and Armstrong (33:28.00) placed fourth and eighth respectively. Nukuri demolished the previous school record of 33:23.38 set by Jennifer Brower in 1991. This performance tops her previous best time by nearly 13 seconds. This race also marked the first 10,000 meters Armstrong has competed in.
“Even though this is a personal best for Diane, I think she has a lot of room for improvement,” Anderson said. “For this being Meghan’s first 10,000 meters, it’s just phenomenal. I can’t say enough good things about these two.”
In her first race of the outdoor season, senior Racheal Marchand placed 18th in the 5,000 meters with a regional qualifying time of 16:35.83.
“With Racheal regionally qualifying I think this has been a successful trip to Stanford thus far.”
AUBURN, AL –
The hammer throw was scheduled for Friday afternoon, but was suspended after the first flight due to inclement weather. Senior Erin O’Hern and junior Amanda Chandler are scheduled to participate.
