CARMEL, IN – The University of Iowa women’s golf team is currently in 11th place after 36 holes at the Indiana Invitational. The Hawkeyes were led by junior Tyrette Metzendorf and senior Jill Marcum, who ended the day tied for 28th place (152, +8) and tied for 42nd place (155, +11), respectively.
Freshman Laura Cilek also had a strong first two rounds for Head Coach Kelly Crawford. The Iowa City, IA, native shot an 80 in both rounds, ending the day tied for 58th place (+16). The Hawkeyes, looking to gain consistency and confidence heading into the Big Ten Championships later this month, sent five players to the invitational, plus senior Melanie Boyles, who was competing as an individual.
Junior Becky Quinby got off to a good start with a first round 72, but finished the second round with an 90 (+20, 164). Freshman Brianna Coopman had a solid first day, finishing with a score of 150 and a tie for 52nd place. Boyles was in tied for 71st place (+20, 164).
The sixth-ranked Purdue Boilermakers are leading the invitational after Day One and have a commanding 29-stroke lead over second place UNLV. Play will resume Tuesday with 18 holes as the Hawkeyes attempt to maneuver their way up the leaderboard.
