UNIVERSITY PARK, PA – The University of Iowa women’s golf team remained in ninth place after Saturday’s third round at the Big Ten Championships, and is tied with host Penn State (924, +60). Purdue remains in the lead and are 18 strokes ahead of second place Michigan State.
After Iowa’s remarkable score of 291 in the second round Friday, the Hawkeyes shot a 308 as a team Saturday. The Hawkeyes’ top performer during the third round was junior Tyrette Metzendorf (224, +8), who shot a 73. At the end of play Saturday, Metzendorf was tied for seventh overall at the Championships.
Senior Melanie Boyles (229, +13) continued her strong push Saturday. The Tempe, AZ, native shot an 80 in the third round and was tied in 22nd place individually at the end of play. Other performers for the Hawkeyes include junior Becky Quinby (240, +24), freshmen Brianna Coopman (240, +24) and Laura Cilek (241, +25) and senior Jill Marcum (245, +29).
Play at the Big Ten Championships concludes Sunday with 18 holes starting at 8 a.m. (EDT). Live scoring can be found at www.golfstat.com.
