IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa soccer team has a busy schedule in the month of August, but it’s an eight-day span that won’t tax the Hawkeye travel budget.

Iowa opens the 2008 season with three consecutive home matches beginning with an Aug. 23 date against Drake at 7 p.m. The Hawkeyes will also host Western Illinois on Friday, Aug. 29, at 7 p.m., and South Dakota State on Sunday, Aug. 31, at 1 p.m.

Two games featuring the Hawkeyes will also be aired on the Big Ten Network this season — Sept. 28 at Michigan State and Oct. 12 at home against Purdue. Last season Iowa finished 8-8-4 overall, 5-2-1 in matches played in Iowa City. The Hawkeyes won six consecutive games from Sept. 14-30 against Drake, Northern Iowa, Creighton, South Dakota State, Michigan State and Michigan.

UI head coach Ron Rainey begins his third season with the Hawkeyes. The eight wins last season were the most for the program since going 11-7-1 in 2002.
