Basketball is a family affair for the Lickliters

Oct. 2, 2008

IOWA CITY, Iowa — “Loyal, good help can be hard to find,” University of Iowa men’s basketball coach Todd Lickliter notes in today’s editions of The Gazette in an article written by Jim Ecker.

“Loyal, good help that’s free? You don’t turn that down.”

The story describes a parents’ dream come true: Father Todd will be coaching his youngest son, freshman guard John Lickliter, when the 2008-09 Hawkeyes take the court in October for the first day of official team practice. However, John won’t have only one member of his family providing instructions to him and his teammates: Todd and Joez Lickliter’s oldest son, Garrett, is filling the graduate assistant slot on the coaching roster for the UI.

As a group, the Lickliter’s see a bright future for the Hawkeyes: “What we see is an opportunity in front of us to put our signature on something, to build something really special,” Todd said.
