AUSTIN, TX – – The golf team hung on today through the final round of the Challenge at Wolfdancer to take home 11th place. Iowa turned in a final team score of 963 after shooting 324 in its final round. No. 30 Colorado seized the title by a slim margin beating Texas Tech and Texas State by just one stroke.
Iowa’s senior duo broke into the top 50 along with sophomore Brianna Coopman. Coopman (+22, 238) shot her best round of the season by firing a 77 in her second 18 holes; she tied for 33rd place. Tyrette Metzendorf (+15, 231) took control of the course yesterday to shoot an even par-72 on her second round. That ties for her season best 18-hole score. Metzendorf finished in a tie for 17th. Becky Quinby finished tied for 48th over the two days (+30, 246)
Laura Cilek and Chelsea Harris remained consistent for the Hawkeyes in Austin. The two underclassmen turned in matching scorecards (+32, 248) and tied for 55th. Harris competed as an individual for Iowa. Lone junior Alison Cavanaugh tied for 71st by carding a 252 (+36).
The tournament marked the end of the fall season for the golfers. The team will prepare for the spring season and return to action in March at the Eagle Landing Invitational.
