IOWA CITY, Iowa – It will come as little surprise that the Iowa Hawkeyes are college football’s “Flavor of the Week” in terms of headlines and editorial on a wide variety of media. Two of the latest can be found on ESPN.com today.
In addition to reporting on its own bid to claim the television rights to the Bowl Championship Series, ESPN staff writer Ivan Maisel chalks up the Hawkeyes’ stirring 24-23 victory over the Penn State Nittany Lions last Saturday inside historic Kinnick Stadium to the performance of Norm Parker’s defense inside the red zone.
“Iowa surely bent. But the Hawkeyes did not break,” notes Maisel.

“The pattern from 2001 also has been reflected on the field. That year, Iowa lost five regular-season games by single digits, adding up to a total of 27 points. The 2008 Hawkeyes entered Saturday at 5-4, with all four losses coming by five points or fewer (12 points total),” noted Rittenberg.
