The Greene Chronicles

The Greene Chronicles

Nov. 22, 2008

IOWA CITY, Iowa — Coming up with new and creative superlatives for University of Iowa running back Shonn Greene becomes more difficult with every 100-yard rushing performance he produces. Heisman Trophy candidate. All-American. Doak Walker Award winner. Big Ten Conference Most Valuable Player.

It certainly has been an eventful and enjoyable regular season for the 8-4 and Outback Bowl-bound Hawkeyes, as well as for Greene, their leading rusher, scorer and offensive weapon. Now readers of hawkeyesport.com can receive an inside sample at what Heisman Trophy voters and members of the Football Writers of America have been receiving throughout the season.

From a 109-yard season-opening effort against Maine on the Kinnick Stadium turf in August to a 144-yard performance in the regular-season finale in the Metrodome in November, Greene — running behind a powerful offensive line — carried the bulk of the Hawkeye offense on his shoulders. No Iowa running back has gained more rushing yards in a single season and no running back in America has matched Greene’s total of 12 consecutive triple-digit rushing yardage performances.
