Iowa Head Coach Lisa Bluder
“I’m really excited about this win for a number of reasons, most importantly for our seniors from the state of Iowa. It means a lot for them to be able to leave their career as Iowa Hawkeyes having this win in their hands.”
“I thought we played defense extremely well tonight. I thought we played screens very well, we moved our feet and Kachine Alexander and JoAnn Hamlin both played tremendous games. They rebounded the ball well and converted at the free throw line. I’m very happy with this win and I think it’s a huge test of character.”
“We have a three-game win streak against in-state rivals and we’ve said from the very beginning that we want to be the state champions. This game gave us a lot of confidence, but we’re going to take it one game at a time.”
#21 Kachine Alexander
“Last year I was sitting on the bench for the Iowa State game and it tore me apart to see our seniors go out with a loss in that game. This year I knew it was unacceptable for them to leave without a win, so I took it upon myself and we came out with a 20-point win.”
#32 Wendy Ausdemore
“This game was huge and it meant a lot. Coach Bluder asked me last minute, `Do you want to be on the court when you beat Iowa State your senior year?’, and I had a tear come to my eye. It means so much to me. I’m so proud of the entire team. We prepared for that in practice. We knew they were going to sag off of them and would be hanging all over me the entire game, so for JoAnn and Kachine to step up like that was amazing. This was a great win for Iowa.”
