IOWA CITY, IA – The University of Iowa soccer team announced its spring schedule Wednesday, which includes matches against Mississippi, Memphis and Notre Dame.
The first group of matches is scheduled to take place Feb. 28 in Iowa City. The Hawkeyes will scrimmage against Illinois State (9 a.m.), North Dakota State (1 p.m.) and the UI Alumni (2:30 p.m.). Those matches will take place at The Bubble.
Iowa won’t be in action again until early April. The Hawkeyes have road dates with Mississippi (April 4) and Memphis (April 5) before heading to Des Moines, IA, to participate in the All-Iowa Tournament with Drake, Northern Iowa and Iowa State.
Iowa closes out its spring schedule in South Bend, IN, against Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish were the No. 1 seed in the NCAA Women’s Soccer Tournament last season but lost to North Carolina in the national championship game.
The Hawkeyes will return seven starters from last year’s team, including all-Big Ten selection Jenna Aleo and all-Big Ten Freshmen team selections Morgan Showalter and Emily Moran.
“This is the most challenging spring schedule we’ve had,” said head coach Ron Rainey. “We’re playing some teams we have some familiarity with and some that we don’t. It will be a challenge going to places like Ole Miss and Memphis, and we are pretty excited about going to play Notre Dame as well.”
