Iowa Men Sweep Big Ten Weekly Honors

IOWA CITY, IA – The Hawkeye men swept the Big Ten Swimming and Diving Awards this week following this past weekend’s 171.5 – 128.5 win over Northwestern. Sophomore Conor Dwyer was named the Big Ten Swimmer of the Week while junior Frank Van Dijkhuizen earned the Big Ten Diver of the Week Award.

Dwyer earns his second career Big Ten weekly honor after earning four first place finishes, including three individual events, against Northwestern. The Winnetka, Ill., native finished first in the 100 free in a time of 45.86 and took the top spot in the 200 free as well, touching the wall in 1:37.37. The sophomore earned his third and final individual win of the meet in the 200 IM, finishing the race with a time of 1:52.15. Dwyer concluded the meet by anchoring Iowa’s winning 400 free relay team, which posted a time of 3:04.29, to secure the victory for the Hawkeyes.

Van Dijkhuizen receives his fifth all-time Big Ten Diver of the Week honor and first this season after sweeping both springboard events against the Wildcats. The junior posted a one-meter score of 316.15, which earned him first place in the event and qualified him for the NCAA Zone Diving meet in March. Continuing on in winning fashion, Van Dijkhuizen took first in the three-meter event as well with a score of 336.45, which again qualified him for the NCAA Zone Diving meet. This was Van Dijkhuizen’s first springboard sweep of the season.
