NFL Draft: Fletcher selected by the St. Louis Rams

IOWA CITY, Iowa — Bradley Fletcher’s steady off-season climb up the NFL Draft boards paid off Sunday when he was selected in the third round by the St. Louis Rams with the 66th overall pick. Fletcher started at left cornerback for the University of Iowa last season, finishing fourth on the team with three interceptions.

Fletcher is the sixth defensive back drafted during UI head coach Kirk Ferentz’s 10 seasons. The others are Matt Bowen (2000), Derek Pagel (2003), Bob Sanders (2004), Sean Considine (2005) and Charles Godfrey (2008).

During his freshman season, Fletcher recorded just one tackle. He finished his Hawkeye career with 152 total stops, including 60 last season. His 10 pass breakups were the most on the team and his 42 solo tackles ranked third on the team behind middle linebacker Pat Angerer (45) and right cornerback Amari Spievey (43).

Iowa is coming off a 9-4 season that included a 31-10 victory over South Carolina in the Outback Bowl on New Year’s Day.

This is the 32nd consecutive season that Iowa has had a player chosen in the NFL Draft. Fletcher was the second selection in the third round Sunday, following former teammate Shonn Greene, who went No. 65 to the New York Jets.
